Kampfgeschwader 6

Need picture!

Ltn. Maser received his flying instruction from the pioneer Hlemuth Hirth and obtained his International Certificate in 1913. In 1915, he was made Commander of the newly formed Kampfgeschwader (Battle Squadron) 6. Their aircraft were two-seater multipurpose aircraft.

In 1916, on the occasion of his birthday and the eve of the Verdun offensive, the members of his squadron presented him with a silver platter (displayed here next to his uniform) inscribed with the signatures of all of the members of the squadron.

He served with distinction and received the Iron Cross, First and Second Classes, The House Order of Honenzollern, and was promoted to Hauptmann (Captain) shortly before the war’s end.

After the war Ernst Maser came to the United States and was a Professor at Louisiana State University. He was a personal friend of Dr. Parks.
