Mercedes Banks

American Red Cross

Need picture!

Mercedes Banks was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and served as an ambulance drive and motorcycle dispatch driver.  She was known, on several occasions, to have taken her motorcycle to the Front during heavy action, and was one of the few women to get close to the actual fighting.

Mercedes was an attractive woman and was well known by many of the early LaFayette Escadrille Pilots.

Displayed in this case is Mercedes’ Red Cross Uniform and a picture of her on her motorcycle.
