LT. CHARLES CROCKER

94th Aero Squadron
Need Picture

Lt. Crocker served in the American Ambulance Field Service during the early years of the war. In July of 1917, Crocker joined the U.S. Air Service and was assigned as a pilot to the 94th Aero Squadron but didn’t make it to the Front until late summer of 1918. Cocker shot down one enemy aircraft and was awarded the Belgian Ordre de la Couronne, Chevalier grade. Crocker was one of the only American pilots to receive this award.

Along with Crocker’s uniform display, is a panel for his SPAD aircraft showing the famous "Hat-n-Ring" insignia of the 94th Aero Squadron.

The "Hat-n-Ring" was chosen as the insignia of the 94th Aero Squadron to denote that Uncle Sam had thrown his hat into the ring to fight.
